Introduction

In this tutorial, you will learn how to work & format the Round Scalar Indicator widget.

Before you start

Make sure you are connected to a data source called US Laptop Sales. If you aren't, go to the Connect to Data tutorial

Step 1: Insert a new Round Scale widget

The first step is to insert a new Round Scale Indicator into the sheet.

To do that:

1. Click on the Insert Widget toolbar item

2. From the sub menu, select Round Scale

Alternative way:

1. Right click over canvas
2. From the popup menu, select Insert Widget
3. From the sub menu, select Round Scale


Step 2: Fill data

The second step is to populate the widget with data.

We wish to view the total sales (Measures dimension)

To do that:

1. Drag the Sales measure from the Data Browser and drop it over the Measure area inside the Widgets Data Layout Panel.

2. Click on the update button in the Widgets Data Layout Panel to populate the Round Scale widget with data.

Step 3: Formatting

The third step is to change the formatting of the RoundScale Indicator.

The indicator supports four different formatting parts:


(1) Background (including border and multiplier):

1. Drag the Sales measure from the Data Browser and drop it over the Measure area inside the Widgets Data Layout Panel

2. Click on the update button in the Widgets Data Layout Panel to populate the Round Scale widget with data.

(2)Scale:

1. Click anywhere on the scale area

2. Use the formatting toolbar buttons to change the scale background, scale foreground and scale text fonts.

(3)Pointer:

1. Click on the pointer area

2.Use the formatting toolbar buttons to change the pointer's color.

(4)Center:

1. Click on the center area

2.Use the formatting toolbar buttons to change the color of the center.

Step 4: Add Thresholds

The fourth step is to apply color thresholds inside the indicator.

Thresholds allow us to define colors for specific value ranges and thus provide easy performance monitoring into our Business Intelligence applications.

Tip:

Use threshold when you want quick indication about whether the current value is above or below expectations.

To work with thresholds, we must first open the Indicator's properties dialog.

To do that:

1. Right click anywhere inside the indicator.

2. Select the Preferences popup menu item.


This will open the Indicator Properties dialog box.

3. Inside the Threshold tab, go to the Threshold coloring scheme drop down list, and select 3 ranges Prism automatically adds 3 color ranges, separating equally.(0 - 33, 33 - 66, 66 - 100).


4. To change the color of the first range, click on the color area inside the range item.


5. Select a desired color from the drop-down color palette .


6. To change the range values, use the Start & End text boxes.


7. Click on the Apply/OK buttons to apply changes .
