Prism Case Study: Wix
Wix selected the SiSense Prism BI reporting and analytics solution for its flexibility, ease of report/dashboard customization, speed when processing massive amounts of data and long-term scalability.
What is Wix?
Wix is the number 1 Flash Website builder in the market today. With an intuitive drag-and-drop site builder, offering search engine friendliness and thousands of fully-customizable templates, Wix now boosts over 5.8 million users. Wix has offices in New York, San Francisco and Tel Aviv.
What business needs was Wix looking to solve when they came across Prism?
Wix grew from a small start-up providing users with a free Web-based platform to a formidable company with millions of users, thousands of Website templates, and fee-based premium packages. Wix was looking for an analytics and reporting solution which would:
- Be easy for non-IT employees and management to use
- Report conversions on a daily/weekly/monthly/annual basis
- Chart user behavior across all the Website areas and functions
- Measure conversions, differentiating between paid and free users
- Quickly generate marketing campaign and product activity reports
- Analyze Website traffic and conversions
- Perform ongoing operational analysis
How was Wix trying to address these needs before implementing Prism?
Before Wix began using Prism, the company's path to high-quality data that could be both analyzed and shared across the company was extremely time consuming, labor intensive and complex. All aspects were hand-scripted and reports were difficult to explore and change.
What other solutions did Wix evaluate before selecting Prism?
In addition to Prism, Wix evaluated products from three other leading BI solution vendors.
Why did Wix select Prism over the alternatives?
- Prism was the most flexible of the solutions. It was extremely easy to produce and customize reports and dashboards.
- Prism handled very large amounts of data faster.
- Prism offered the best growth path for creating the BI solution that we required for the long-term growth and success of Wix. For example, our current database volume is already 700GB. Every day, we add another 1 million rows to our database.
How was the Prism implementation carried out?
The company's senior BI analyst was in charge of the implementation project. Overall, it was a relatively easy rollout. The hardware requirements were low and all we really needed was a good PC server. No outside services were required.
Installing Prism on the end user machines was straightforward and it was easy for users to get started with the product, with little or no training. Users found it simple to upload/connect any kind of data, including MS-SQL, Oracle and MySQL databases, Excel and CSV files and direct API access to Google Adwords and Google Analytics data.
On the server side, ElastiCube builds were fast, and the ability to perform ETL within the ElastiCube gave us extensive flexibility.
How is Wix using Prism to solve its business needs today?
Wix is currently using Prism to supply all the reporting and analytics needs mentioned in the "business needs" section, above.
What are the greatest business benefits that Wix is enjoying with Prism?
- The ease with which staff and management can get access to the data they want, just as they want it, gives us a tremendous competitive advantage in the market.
- Any user can modify reports and dashboards without real technical knowledge, making it easy to update and view data according to their own needs. It's all drag-and-drop – no scripting or programming knowledge is required.
- The system's very fast and accurate data processing make it practical for users to quickly examine many scenarios and angles within the data, leading to an unprecedented degree of analytic flexibility and insight discovery.
What do Wix's Prism users have to say about the product?
Before we used Prism, the path to getting high-quality data that could be both analyzed and shared across the company was extremely time consuming, labor intensive and complicated. Everything was based on hand-scripted reports which were difficult to change and review. Now we have a simple interface, with clear, well-structured reports that we can manipulate at any time. And so can the users of Prism within the company, even without expert knowledge of analytics software.
— Avishai Abrahami, CEO
As an analyst, it's a convenient environment to work in: data analysis is fast, reports look good and it's easy to create new reports. It's fantastic how easy it is for non-technological people to use these tools after a bare minimum of training, and how fast the system responds over our 700GB database.
— Yossi Ankri, Senior BI Analyst
For us, Prism is the difference between guessing and knowing. I see this as a basic tool that every manager needs.
