All UFO Sightings Organized by Location and Time
For the first time you can explore thousands of UFO sightings collected by the United States government. More than 100,000 pages of declassified documents on the US Air Force’s internal UFO investigation, called Project Blue Book, have been uploaded to the Internet. We decided to analyze this information and got some interesting results. Now, for the first time, you can see all sightings by location and time in an interactive heatmap. Perhaps with some more digging someone can come up with answers to explain some sightings that even the FBI and CIA couldn’t…
About Project Blue Book
Project Blue Book lasted between 1952 and 1970 and with only a handful of staff who managed to investigate 12,618 sightings made in the US and abroad. There were two goals: to scientifically examine these sightings and quell public unrest by determining that UFOs were not a national security threat. The project concluded that most of the events were misidentifications of natural phenomena or conventional aircrafts. In some cases reports were explained by flights of formerly secret government aircrafts.
Some Freaky Things Happening in Ohio
The year that had the most sightings was 1966. We’re not suggesting this had anything to do with the Summer of Love and the flood of psychoactive substances that came with it, but we’re not saying otherwise, either. Interestingly, much more sightings were recorded in eastern United States than its west, although that may be explained by the area generally being less populated. However, the reason why specifically Ohio is the capital of UFO sightings remains a mystery.
