Enhance an existing application or develop a new front-end solution that leverages the capabilities of Compose SDK. The challenge is designed to be industry-agnostic and focuses on the creative use of data to power versatile workflows.
For example, this could look like:

<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Custom report creation or report builder: Enable users to select specific datasets and construct their own custom tabular reports. This feature should provide intuitive tools for sorting, filtering, and displaying data based on user preferences.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Dynamic data visualization: Develop a user-friendly interface that allows end-users to configure and manipulate data visualizations. Participants should implement interactive elements such as sliders, dropdowns, and/or checkboxes that dynamically alter the visual representation of the data.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Automation of tasks or workflows: Implement functionality that triggers automatic tasks or workflows based on specific data events. This could include sending alerts, initiating data-driven processes, or updating other systems in real-time.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Data blending: Integrate and harmonize data from various open source datasets with the proprietary data available within the Sisense Fusion Environment. Ensure that the combined data can be effectively used in reports, visualizations, and automated workflows.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">AI integration: Develop an application that harnesses advanced large language models (like OpenAI, Gemini, or LLaMA) to function as an intelligent user interface. This AI will assist users in building detailed reports or visually rich dashboards by interacting through natural language. The output of these queries or responses should all be powered by Compose SDK. </li>

What is the challenge?

<ol>
<li> SDK usage requirement: All projects submitted for judging must utilize the Sisense Compose SDK. The use of the SDK must be integral to the functionality of the project, not just peripheral or minimal.</li>
<li> Code repository: Participants must host their project code in a public Git repository. This repository should include all source code used in the project, with clear documentation and organization to facilitate review.</li>
<li> Video demonstration: Each team must submit a video demonstration of their project. The video must clearly showcase how the project works and highlight its key features, especially those utilizing the Sisense Compose SDK. The duration of the video must not exceed 3 minutes.</li>
<li> Documentation requirement: Along with their submission, participants must provide a detailed document. This document should explicitly state which parts of the code utilize the Sisense Compose SDK and reference the specific pages or sections of their code in the Git repository where these integrations can be reviewed.</li>
<li> Submission deadline: All project materials, including the code repository link, video demonstration, and accompanying documentation, must be submitted by midnight ET on May 31st, 2024.</li>
<li> Judging criteria: Submissions will be judged based on innovation, effective use of the Sisense Compose SDK, code quality, functionality, user experience, and the overall presentation in the submitted video.</li>
<li> Eligibility: This hackathon is open to all who wish to participate, from students to professional developers. Teams can be composed of individuals or groups, with a maximum of five members per team. Participants must be over 21 years old. The hackathon is open to all provinces, territories, states, and countries of the world and is void where prohibited by law. The hackathon is subject to all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.</li>
<li> Intellectual property: Participants retain ownership of their projects, but by entering the Compose SDK hackathon, they grant Sisense the right to share their code, videos, and documents for promotional or educational purposes.</li>
<li> Conduct: Participants are expected to maintain a high standard of professionalism and sportsmanship throughout the event. Harassment, use of offensive language, or other inappropriate behavior will result in disqualification.</li>
<li> Compliance: By submitting a project, participants agree that they comply with both the spirit and the letter of the Compose SDK hackathon rules and guidelines. Noncompliance with these rules may result in disqualification at any stage of the competition.</li>
</ol>
Sisense’s decisions are final and binding. Failure to comply with these rules may result in disqualification from the hackathon. Sisense reserves the right to permanently disqualify any person it believes has intentionally violated these rules. This hackathon is subject to all federal, state, and local laws and regulations.

What are the rules?

Who are the judges?

<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Sisense Compose SDK utilization: Judges will evaluate the extent and effectiveness of Compose SDK usage in the project.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Code quality: Submissions should exhibit clean, maintainable, and reusable code. </li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">User experience: The ease of use, design, and interactivity of the application will be critiqued. </li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Innovation: Creativity in application design and data usage will be rewarded. </li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Real-world application: The practicality of the application and its potential to provide immediate benefits in real-world settings will be assessed.</li>
</ul>

What are the judging criteria?

Winners will be selected and announced by June 7th. There will be a virtual winner announcement event at 4pm ET on that day, and the winners will also be notified via email.</li>

How do I participate?  

Non-customers can access the Sisense Compose SDK by signing up for a trial <a href="/platform/compose-sdk-free-trial/" target="_blank">here</a>. Upon registration, you will receive an email from Sisense with your API token and detailed instructions on how to use it to authenticate components within the Compose SDK.

If I am not an existing Sisense customer, how can I get an API token? 

If you are a Sisense customer you can authenticate the Compose SDK &lt;SisenseContextProvider&gt; in three different ways. You can leverage your Username/Password, web access token, or an API token. If you don’t know how to generate a web access token and/or API Token, please use the following documentation:

Participants will have access to four pre-configured datasets:

What data will I have access to for testing during the hackathon?  

Ensure you’re using the following versions or newer to be compatible with the Compose SDK:

What version of React, Angular, or Vue are compatible with the SDK?

Participants should use the latest version of the Compose SDK available to ensure access to the most recent features and updates.

What version of the Compose SDK should I use for the hackathon?

Where can I find relevant documentation for the Compose SDK?  

In the summer of 2023, Sisense hosted an internal hackathon where the first-place winner developed a Google Chrome extension that detected and highlighted NFL players&#8217; names searched on Google. Hovering over the name would display a chart of the player&#8217;s fantasy football stats using the Compose SDK for data visualization. The second-place project involved self-service dashboards where users could customize and arrange predefined charts on a canvas.

What are some examples of past hackathon projects?  

The number of challenges tackled will not solely determine the winner. Quality and depth of execution are more critical. For instance, a project excellently executing multiple challenges may score higher than one executing a single challenge well, but poor execution across multiple challenges will likely score lower than high-quality execution on a single challenge. Strategically, it is advisable to tackle challenges from simplest to most complex to ensure the integrity and quality of the final deliverable.

How will undertaking multiple challenges affect how my project is judged?  

For this hackathon, we are exclusively using GitHub. Please ensure that your repository is public to allow us to access and review your code.
