Data cognition engines can save millions in big data costs

An electronics manufacturer which has deployed a data cognition engine managed to replace a 6 gigabyte data set containing 2 billion records with hundreds of columns which required 30 minutes to query, with a 2 megabyte data cognition engine. This data cognition brain can answer questions and provide its “hunches” at 99% accuracy or better and within 0.1 millisecond. This represents a 30,000x reduction in storage needs and 18,000,000x speed improvement.

Business analytics is being leveraged to prevent school shootings

Business analytics is one of the hottest B2B sectors, and business intelligence company Sisense has $80M more in its war chest to prove it. The newly announced funding, led by New York based Insight Venture Partners, brings Sisense’s total funding to date to around $200M. That strategic versatility, which is data-agnostic and plug-and-play, is the new normal in business analytics, and it’s giving rise to some novel applications. One of Sisense’s clients, Captis Intelligence, has been using the company’s hybrid-cloud analytics to extract insights from publicly accessible social media feeds and posts on the unindexed deep web about crimes and credible threats to safety, including in schools. Captis calls its analytics tool PRISM and uses Sisense for its data digesting and to run the analysis.

Predictions on a Silver Platter: How AI Is Creating More Effective Human Interactions in Luxury

For the moment, the human element is a necessary one; the technological limitations of AI means that it’s not yet ready to infer small subtleties in the sales interaction — things like mood, tone and sarcasm, for example. Functionality aside, there’s also the negative association with automation in a luxury setting. For an affluent, frequent customer, a single call to a service line that reaches the automated phone tree might be enough to scotch the brand experience. To be sure, as consumers become more comfortable with the technology, especially as more and more millennials reach a point of affluence, humans may no longer be a requisite part of the mix. For now we better augment humans rather than replace them.

How to prepare your kids for jobs that don’t exist yet

Amir Orad, CEO of business analytics software Sisense, says that children should be multidisciplined. “Our tradition of schooling from the Industrial Age makes you really, really good at one thing,” he says. “I think that’s very dangerous for the next generation.” Parents should encourage kids to be good at more than one thing as a way of being flexible, he says. By choosing interdisciplinary courses of study, kids will not only develop a variety of skills, they’ll also be knowledgeable about more than one subject area, giving them some adaptability as jobs change. Another way to think about it? Try out a lot of different stuff. Having a variety of experience will prove valuable in the future, he says.

We spoke to three business leaders in the space at a recent conference hosted by analytics software firm Sisense about the difficulties of teaching people about AI, refitting aging systems to handle new tech and expanding the collective imagination of what’s possible. Amir Orad, the CEO of business intelligence platform Sisense, stresses the need for someone who can simplify data on behalf of an entire organization without turning all existing processes upside down. “You need someone who can lead the adoption of analytics and intelligence throughout the firm,” Orad says. “You don’t want this person coming in to create a silo around business intelligence, nor should this person attempt to retrain the employee base to ‘learn’ analytics.”

Why Brick And Mortar Retailers Need E-Commerce-Style Data Tracking Methods

With the help of the Sisense business intelligence platform, Erea’s dashboards are taking this seemingly intangible data and turning it into usable, actionable tips for retailers. This dashboard makes it possible to collect, analyze and employ data that improves the user experience to increase sales. A store manager can go to a management-only dashboard view and see exactly what combination of category, brand or supplier is the one with the worst results against the day before, or against the same day the year before, or any comparison timeframe desired. That way store managers can focus immediately on what needs the most attention that specific morning.

Winning the Hearts of Business Users

“David in a sea of Goliaths” and a “nasty shock” for the big BI boys are just some of the ways world-renowned analysts and news agencies are describing Sisense. Our solution is radically changing the way business users make decisions as Sisense is the only Business Intelligence and Analytics software that allows non-techies to join disparate, large data sets, find insights, and share them with thousands of users – skipping the data preparation nightmare that plagues most business users today.
