Published each February, the Gartner MQ gets all of the fanfare. But frankly, as a data geek, it is a pretty boring report. Each vendor gets a single dot, three strength statements, and three caution statements. For all the work that goes into the analysis, that’s it! Sisense was named a Visionary on the Gartner MQ, but even with our outstanding performance, I am left wanting more. As a data geek, I want to know exactly why we performed so well!
That is exactly where the Gartner Critical Capabilities Report for Analytics and BI Platforms comes in. Published a few months after the MQ, this report provides more than a glimpse at the mountain of data behind the Gartner MQ.
The report is a comparative analysis that scores competing products against a set of critical differentiators identified by Gartner. And not just in words, but in numbers. Just the way I like it. This makes it all the sweeter for me, as here at Sisense, my focus is to make sure that our clients have everything they need to understand our radical innovation.
And for that reason, I can tell you the report has made my job easy. Here’s why I got off the train at Penn station this morning with a grin that showed my pearly whites to the world and had my fellow train-mates wondering what was written on those papers…
Some of our Strengths
Gartner extends its Magic Quadrant analysis to include the strengths of our product. At Sisense, we make sure data teams have the best tools to ingest, clean, and transform data from a broad range of sources, supporting both live data from high performing databases and mashup in the ElastiCube.
We also score high for Extranet Deployment, which is great news for all our builders, including data engineers and data teams.
I know for a fact that Sisense has the greatest level of flexibility for modeling data. One of the reasons I came to work for Sisense was because I strongly believed in this technical ability, and saw the potential for data teams to bring in live data from any DWH or mashup data in the ElastiCube from varied sources. And with the recent merger with Periscope Data, data teams can also work with common languages like SQL, Python, and R to bring better insights to analysts and end users.
Sisense also scored the highest (4.23 out of 5.0) for OEM or Embedded BI in this report. Sisense has always been great with its embedded use case for products. In fact, over half our business is based on OEM sales, and that is only going to get stronger. With our solution being fully extensible and customizable, developers and product managers find that they can integrate our product to suit their business needs perfectly. We are amazed at some of the ways our customers find to use our product as an embedded solution, including white-labeling our product to become a revenue generator, and to develop add-ons that create true competitive differentiators in their products.
Keep Your Eyes on Augmented Analytics
We’ve been working on many innovations in our Sisense Labs department. Some of the most innovative technologies coming out of Labs is Insight Miner, Boto, and Sisense Hunch, which condenses immense amounts of data into lightweight neural networks for quick and easy analysis at the edge. In terms of augmented analytics, Gartner has scored us with a 3.08 score out of 5.0, but that doesn’t worry us. Our next innovation to hit the market will be AI Exploration Paths. Sisense’s AI Exploration Paths empower business users to access more comprehensive insights in fewer clicks by automatically generating visualizations in anticipation of their next question. You will see it become more of a driver in our analytics over the next year. I am confident that Sisense Labs and the innovations coming from this team will put us over the top in this category in the coming years.
Power to the Builders
Since the beginning of the year, we have been talking about our capabilities to power the builders—data engineers, BI teams, data scientists, developers, business analysts, and data-focused business users. Our goal is to deliver a platform that empowers data, product, and business teams to drive the digital transformation within their organizations, reducing both the time and effort needed for this entire workflow.
With high scores in this report, we know we are on the right track when we focus on agility, centralized BI provisioning, and governed data discovery.
Our merger with Periscope Data sets us on a new trajectory to build this unified platform. One that is uniquely positioned to empower these business, data, and product teams to bring their companies into the digital era.
Sisense is a truly self-service platform for data scientists, data engineers, developers, business analysts, and business users. All these builders are supported in an integrated platform that streamlines workflows between teams. And this is reflected in our customer reviews that give us high scores for ease of use of our product, and visual appeal.
