A Choropleth is a map that uses differences in shading, coloring, or the placing of symbols within predefined areas to indicate the average values of a property or quantity in those areas. This mapbox choropleth map plugin is a type of thematic map in which areas are shaded or patterned in proportion to a statistical variable that represents an aggregate summary of a geographic characteristic within each area, such as population density or per-capita income or other socioeconomic statuses.
Once designing the choropleth portion of this plugin, one can then add additional layers on top of that to show even more information like point distribution, or heatmap configurations. Each polygon or shape can hold additional multiple points of information which will be viewed within the tooltip on hovering over. This plugin will require a mapbox API token, Mapbox provide a very generous free tier.
